How To Choose The 4 Cup Coffee Maker?
Design And Dimensions
Very few coffee makers have a design that looks modern and pleasant to everyone’s eye. The most crucial part of a coffee machine design is its dimensions. There are innumerous options on the market with a variety of sizes. The whole point of buying a best 4-cup coffee maker is to have a system with small footprints. If you plan to place the unit in a cabinet or on a congested countertop, then ensure the compact size can meet your needs.
Other than size, weight is another factor to take into account when making a decision. Do prefer a lightweight unit that can be easy to carry and move around. Check the dimensions on the packaging during purchasing. Those who want slim and sleek machines can avoid espresso-style coffee makers because they are slightly bigger in size as they come with additional attachments like milk frothers.
Coffee Maker and Carafe Material
The brewer is typically made from one of three things: plastic, stainless steel, or glass. But in some cases, it may be a blend of these materials. Plastic is the least preferred material because of its poor quality and the fact that when plastic comes in contact with hot water, it releases chemicals that can be harmful to health. If you are looking for an affordable product to buy that has led you to something made of plastic, be sure it is BPA-free.
Stainless steel is the most durable option but is a bit pricier than plastic and glass models. If you are concerned about how you paid for an expensive stainless steel coffee maker, then you will probably change your mind after a few years down the road when you will still be using it with no problems.
Glass brewers are another widely purchased type primarily because of their aesthetic appeal. The plus point of these brewers is that they won’t give you plastic aftertaste. And obviously, glass isn’t the more durable option either, as it is prone to accidents and breakage.
And since we talked about the build material of the brewer, let’s have a look at the carafe construction. The carafe you choose will undoubtedly affect the temperature of your brew. There are various carafes, but the most used are made either of glass or stainless steel.
Brewing Temperature
The ideal temperature to brew a coffee is 205°F, more than this temperature would cause a burnt taste and influence the quality of the coffee. However, the temperature less than 195°F will not extract the optimal flavor and aroma from your coffee and make an undrinkable cup of coffee. So while purchasing a coffee maker, make sure that it consistently maintains the recommended temperature during the brewing process.
Filters
All coffee makers use a different type of filter, and which is where the actual coffee extraction takes place. Selecting a coffee filter depends on your personal preference. There are two standard options available in the market: reusable filters and paper filters. Paper filters create more mess and wastage but are preferred by the expert coffee maker as the microparticles of coffee that end up in the mug will be less, and it will taste more gentle and flavorful. On the other hand, reusable filters are a more convenient and environmentally friendly option. The only downside of these filters is they do not extract the oils from the coffee, leading to bolder and richer flavored drinks.
Functions
Programmable Functions: These features add convenience to life, especially to people on the go or for those who love to wake up to a nice cup ready for consumption. You can set the machine to brew at a specific time, like when you usually leave for work. This technology is pretty used and readily available in most brewers, even under your budget.
Auto Pause And Switch off: Suppose you want a cup of coffee before its whole brewing process is done. Auto pause function enables you to remove the carafe in the mid-brew and pour yourself a cup. The device senses that the carafe has been removed and stops pouring. That allows you to enjoy your drink without creating a whole lot of mess by dripping coffee. The auto-off feature turns off the system a few minutes after it’s done brewing. This saves a lot of energy, so you won’t have to worry about high electricity bills.
Maintenance And Cleaning
The primary reason behind choosing a four-cup coffee maker is convenience. Easy cleaning and maintenance play a significant role. There is no point in purchasing a machine that’s a nightmare to clean and maintain. The more parts your coffee maker has, the more difficult it is to clean it. So at the time of picking your brewer, check whether its components are removable and dishwasher safe. You will need to remove and rinse the carafe every time you brew your coffee. Also, try to wash the permanent filter and filter basket just as often.
Price
Almost everyone desires a reliable coffee machine at a reasonable price. But before buying a coffee brewer, you have to make sure it comes under your budget. Coffee maker brands charge different prices for their products, so if you’re looking to purchase the most affordable model possible, make sure to steer clear of higher-end brands and say no to a machine with any price-increasing additional features. With such a wide variety of devices on the market, you’re sure to find a decent coffee maker that won’t drain your wallet.
On top of the price label, there are extra costs, remember? Your java maker will consume power, charge you for maintenance, and demand accessories. Pick an energy-saving device, even if the price label seems a bit higher than its matches, to make a penny-wise decision. It will pay off in the extended period. You can also buy a coffee appliance that uses reusable mesh filters and an upper hand. This will lessen your need to buy paper filters.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Should I purchase a coffee maker with a disposable paper filter or a reusable filter?
If you like drinking a bolder and darker coffee with oils and micro-fine residue and are willing to clean your filters regularly, then go for a reusable filter. A disposable paper filter captures even tiny granules of coffee as well as the majority of oils.
Plus, it does not require constant changing, so it saves lots of money. In addition, the cost of using paper filters accumulates over time. So, paper filters are for individuals who desire their coffee to be sediment and oil-free and value the ease of disposal over the cost of the filter.
2. Why should you choose a 4-cup coffee maker?
Following are some primary reasons why you should get one:
- It is faster than any artisan coffee maker. It gets your job done with no fuss.
- These machines Consume less counter space.
- Easier to clean.
- Ideal for nuclear families.
3. How much power does a 4-cup coffee maker require?
The wattage of your coffee machines relies on the brand and model you purchase. But a small coffee pot that brews four to five cups of coffee will use between 550 and 900 watts of power.
4. How much coffee should be used in 4-cup coffee makers?
The amount of coffee that should be used depends upon the strength preference you desire. Generally speaking, the Speciality Coffee Association of America suggests adding two scoops of coffee every 6 ounces of water. Approximately you can add one tablespoon per cup as well. One or two tablespoons for every six ounces of water is called the “Golden Ratio” of coffee.
